I Started Reading Warrior Cats Because of Games and I Love It

When I played Cattails for the first time I hadn't even heard of the Warrior Cat series. I think I was either aged out or to much of a horse girl when the first books came out.

After I started Gamer Cat Cafe, and spoke with the developer of the Cattails series of games, Falcon Develops, my interest peaked. I had to know more about the series that captivated so many fans.

So I started reading...the wrong books. Or at least I started reading in the wrong order. The first book I read was Midnight, the first in The New Prophecy part of the series. Despite my faux pas, I was still hooked.

After a course correction to the original series I've been happily chugging along through the series. As of the writing of this article, I'm about halfway through A Dangerous Path (and yes I'm very stressed out).

I can definitely see why legions of fans are so devoted to the series.

It's dramatic, the characters are endearing, the world is fleshed out with intricate political details. But what about this young adult series is so gripping?

I'm not going to attempt to define the overall impact of this series, this video by Exits Examined does a great job of that. But I can describe what it has meant to me.

These books entered my life at a pivotal time. I became a mom to my first born. We listened to the audiobooks (shout-out to Macleod Andrews awesome job narrating) while kiddo wiggled and struggled to fall asleep. I listened, exhausted, completing household chores on nearly no energy. New parents are very sleepy beings.

I looked forward to long car rides and chores since it was an excuse to listen to the drama between the cat clans.

The Warrior Cat series is a grounding space for me when life can be overwhelming.

So if you need me, I'll be contemplating renaming my cats by warrior standards and referring to the book order list for my next listen.
